The Wars Of Afghanistan And Iraq - 1825 Words

Introduction The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq presented a new problem for the military they would be fighting an insurgency in both of these countries. The question how to fight small bands of often unidentified combatants led to the adoption of many practices and techniques from law enforcement agencies around the United States. The techniques and practices were somewhat refined the technology used to track individuals was still in its infancy and most was not user friendly or robust enough to handle the challenge of tracking hundreds to thousands of people and places with any detail. The other factor that was lacking was how to get the local populous to trust outsiders. These three separate but connected areas needed a quick upgrade.†¦show more content†¦The first area that we will discuss is the process to determine who is a target that needs to be dealt with the original model from law enforcement was the D3A model. The D3A model stands for Decide, Detect, Deliver, and A ssess. This model was a good starting point for the military but with years of refinement the model returned to the police from the military is the addition of a more adaptable model it is F3EAD. The F3EAD stands for Find, Fix, Finish, Exploit, Analyze, and Disseminate the addition of this changes not only the preparation phase but the readiness to continue actioning on intelligence gained where the Assess portion of the original model ended the cycle. To put this in prospective if a gang safe house was going to be raided in order to arrest a high ranking gang member who has a warrant out the D3A model alone would look at when the High Value Individual (HVI) would likely be at the safe house. Have surveillance at the safe house to ensure the HVI was inside the building. Then they would serve a warrant once they had proof the individual was inside. And once apprehended the safe house would be searched and any intelligence found (incriminating evidence on other gang members, Location of other safe houses or drug labs etc.) would be brought back to the police station to be examined in order to decide what evidence
