Secondary labor market Essay Example for Free

Secondary labor market Essay Many Liberal feminists believe that gender role of socialization is the major reason for sexual division of labor. The main act which is responsible for this change is because of the activities and nurturing that is been followed right from the home of the girl or the boy. At homes there is mainly manipulation and canalization where in girls or boys are forced to use things or do acts which are gender specific. For example, a girl is assumed and encouraged to be emotional and caring while a boy should be brave and strong at heart. In certain cases, a woman is still expected to be associated with the typical roles of a housewife / mother which restricts her from being a career oriented individual. Most of the time they take a back seat for their children’s upbringing , because they have been nurtured from home to be the nurses of the family and are known to be the maternal nurses. According to Marxist feminist, these inequalities will end once capitalism ends. Racial discrimination starts from home in the relationship between a wife and a husband. The way men would behave with women at work is directly related in majority of cases with their behavior with women at home. There are different reasons for gender inequalities. The reason is not always that a woman is forced to remain at home but in most of the cases she chooses to be. But most of the feminists deny this theory as they feel this inequality is due to the employer’s attitude then mere women’s choices. Even in instances where in a women may be career oriented but still will be differentiated based on the salary front. Women are also considered to be slow at work and less committed and unskilled which prevents them in the eyes of the employer to take on higher posts. There are two kinds of labor market that exists, Primary labor market which comprises of managerial and professional workers and Secondary labor market comprises of unskilled and semi skilled workers. Most of the instances show that if a women have taken a 5 year break from their career for their children then getting back in the job industry will be very difficult for her as she is considered to be less skilled for the same job. Hence they are restricted to be promoted at higher levels of the management. Employers consider women as a reserve or a back up labor force in companies as they will recruit them only if they have certain less skilled jobs to be carried out. Shifts in the gender inequalities are mainly differentiated based on ethnic groups, age and geographical regions. The expectations according to UK labor are that women will be â€Å"individualized† and will be economically better advanced. But still women are disproportionately employed as part time employers and are sometimes not paid even. Certain studies show that production and reproduction are required for the existence of human society but for women to bear children is incompatible. Low fertility of women, maternal responsibilities often are the causes of women’s underachievement compared to men at the working place.

Uses and Abuses of Censorship :: social issues

Uses and Abuses of Censorship The uses and abuses of censorship in developed and developing countries have been under discussion for quite a long time. Although societies claim for freedom of thought and expression, which are indispensable to live peacefully, censorship is sometimes necessary, due to the fact tha its abuse may badly influence the behaviour of a society and may also result in anarchism. There are different kinds of censorship. The most common ones are: governmental, press and television censorship. The first one is connected with the respect and consideration people should live with. If the citizens of a country do not have the chance of giving voice to their discontent, they feel furstrated and inhibited. Freedom of expression is extremely important inthis case. People must have the opportunity of saying what the think in order to improve the conditions of living, without governmental censorship. Unfortunately, this freedom is sometimes exercised in a wrong way obliging the Government to use its power to censor demonstrators, because they behave violently and irrationally. It is clear, then, that it is highly positive that people have freedom of expression, but on the other hand, that freedom must be used in logical and civilized terms, to improve life in society, otherwise its bad use may lead to a social chaos. Press censorship is quite common nowadays. The press plays an important part in modern societies. Although there are some exceptions, some journalists and reporters are nowadays mor reliable than most of the politicians. Independent press has the freedom of publishing true facts about everyday governmental activities and decisions. In some cases, if the press did not investigate political and government affairs, people would never know some decisions, which most of the times, are in favour of leaders and against grass roots. It is said that the press is the fourth estate by the influence it has on the society, consequently, it should never be censored by the Governmet. Unfortunately, sometimes this freedom is used by journalists with political tendencies, so Government should have the power to investigate secret arrangements between the opposite political parties and some corrupt journalists. Another common case of censorship is the one shown by the Government, which in past times used to censor some television programmes. There are a lot of examples of programmes which were prohibited by governmental organizations. This was the clearest exemplification of censorship in past times.

Comm essay

The council members consist of Mayor Adam Sanchez, Mayor Pro Tem Russell Beets and council members, Joe McKee, Jan Rye, and Scott Mats. Eric Johnson s a consultant with Revenue Cost Specialist; he discusses his company and matches costs with revenue. Within twenty-five years he's worked in over two hundred agencies and five different states. It started with two city managers after the passage of proposition 4 and 13, in which they saw the need for cities to be able to match up the cost with their revenues.Proposition 13 limits what can be done with taxes, compared to Proposition 4, which allows fees. â€Å"You are not going to stay in business very long if you don't know what revenues you are bringing in verses what cost you are bringing' said Johnson ruing his brief presentation. In his introduction, Eric mentioned questions such as ‘What services are being provided to the public? † Who's providing those services? † and â€Å"What does that cost? † With tha t being said he went through and made adjustments to public fees and some have gone up as well as down.Although, I am not too aware of what exactly was being discussed, these questions definitely made me think about how money is being spent. I may not be familiar with certain topics, however I do pay taxes and I should make it a priority to be involved and know exactly where my money is being invested. It's up to the city council to decide how fees are paid, but it is our tax money that is being used so it is important to be aware of these decisions. Another topic that was brought up was the mural; the public does not agree that it takes eight hours to approve a mural. The city manager Martin States the benefits, salaries, and overhead cost are included, then a staff report along with an agenda that is published by the adman assistant is sent to the commission. The city council claims it is the true cost for the current staffing that they have to process one application to go to the commission. Larry Ken has complained several times about the meeting taking to long to process a mural, as he is talking he is cut off and does not appreciate that he is being rushed as he states his concerns. The council uses the â€Å"save a pet mural† to demonstrate the steps that take place, for example sometimes a meeting with the chair is necessary and furthermore the artist themselves to discuss numbers etc. Another topic that was brought up was the cost of business license, so many people work out of their homes and many are complaining that they are not being paid due to high prices. Currently, if you do not have a business location in the city and your business is in Palm Springs and your doing landscaping in Desert Hot Springs it is double the business license fee.A city council member is concerned to whether this is reasonable and how it is being monitored. Some cities do not even require a business license, however DISH has a business license tax per ordinance. In closing, it was brought up amongst the council that city matters are better off handling administratively to avoid public hearings. As council members or mayors they eve a tendency to get over involved in city business instead of referring to staff, which would make it much easier to conduct city business.Council member McKee feels it is necessary to be friendly to the people that live there as well as the businesses. There are several things that need to be reduced such as the event fee, mural fees, and possibly get rid of the garage sales fee. However it is argued that if the garage sales fee is removed perhaps residents will try to make it and everyday event, then again it should not be a fee everyone has to pay. Business licenses need to be simplified and made a lot heaper so it will encourage people actually to get them rather than avoid them.As a city council, a policy should be made every three years compared to seven years, this is for good management and to be aware Of whe re money is being spent due to current budget issues. I'm glad we had this assignment it gave me a different perspective to how important I am as a resident. I pay taxes yet I am not even aware fatwa they are being used for, that alone is a main concern of mine. I've become more interested in what goes on in my own city, and plan to go to the next council meeting that is held. Some of the arguments that were brought up were reasonable but some also did not have enough evidence to back up their statement. It is important to do research before you speak because council members are not afraid to cut you off based on how much information that must be covered in such a short period of time. It is not in a sense to be rude, however with so much to discuss it is important to Stay on track and take more time on the bigger issues going on. As a city we should all be more involved and voice our opinions that is one of the reasons why these meetings are held to begin with.

BUSI 642 DB 1 Essay - 990 Words

BUSI 642: Week 2 Discussion Board 1 Liberty University Discussion Board 1 In a world that is quick to state discrimination has taken place, there is a new discrimination emerging (i.e. reverse discrimination). Is this form of discrimination really discrimination? What diversity practices would you put in place to prevent any kind of discrimination? Generally speaking, discrimination is rooted in within the â€Å"cultural fabric of the United States† along the lines of â€Å"housing, employment, health, and the criminal justice system† (Camara Orbe, 2011). Hecht (1998) describes the term, â€Å"discrimination involves the power and capacity to act followed by actual selective/targeted action against someone else emanating from one’s†¦show more content†¦(Gomez-Mejia, Balkin, Cardy, 2012). If this pattern continues, one would assume that a decision from the Supreme Court to back a reverse discrimination claim will eventually be upheld. Taking a step back, before reverse discrimination can happen affirmative action must first be present. Affirmative action came about, at least in the modern era, when President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802 â€Å"requiring defense contractors to pledge nondiscrimination in employment in government-funded projects† (Affirmative action, n.d.). However, it was not until President Kennedy issued Executive Order 10925 that affirmative action started to take real shape. This order required â€Å"not only that federal contractors pledge non-discrimination but that they ‘take affirmative action to ensure’ equal opportunity, that the now-fractious phrase came into popular discourse. Kennedys order also included penalties -- including suspension of a contract -- for non-compliance† (Affirmative action, n.d.). In 1972, affirmative action changed yet again in response to the large number of disabled Vietnam Veterans. The Vietnam Era Veterans Readju stment Assistance Act of 1972 â€Å"was amended a year later to require federal agencies and contractors to take affirmative action in employment and promotion for people with disabilities... Affirmative action was understood to be the creation of opportunities to compete and not an assurance of outcome or successShow MoreRelatedManaging Information Technology (7th Edition)239873 Words   |  960 Pages CONTENTS: CASE STUDIES CASE STUDY 1 Midsouth Chamber of Commerce (A): The Role of the Operating Manager in Information Systems CASE STUDY I-1 IMT Custom Machine Company, Inc.: Selection of an Information Technology Platform CASE STUDY I-2 VoIP2.biz, Inc.: Deciding on the Next Steps for a VoIP Supplier CASE STUDY I-3 The VoIP Adoption at Butler University CASE STUDY I-4 Supporting Mobile Health Clinics: The Children’s Health Fund of New York City CASE STUDY I-5
